About Me

I'm Lucy - a twenty-one year old undergraduate in the second year of an English Literature & Spanish degree.

León Felipe was a great poet, yet he is incredibly underrated in today's discussions of literature. This was a leading reason why I decided to translate his collection Ganarás la luz for a project in college. I have come across few translations of his work, and no comprehensive books, and therefore I hope this website will prove a useful tool.

Do get in touch with feedback, recommendations or requests. My work is not perfect, but with time I hope to produce a useful, accurate collection. You can get in touch on lrfuggle@gmail.com

All poems from Ganarás la luz are translated from the original as published in the 2006 Catedra edition by José Paulino.

Best wishes,
Lucy

  1. Dear Lucy, thank you for your work translating the great Leon Felipe. I am writing from Mexico. I am finding it very hard to get an english translation of "voy con las riendas tensas y refrenando el vuelo, porque no es lo que importa llegar solo ni pronto, sino juntos y a tiempo" from book II of Versos y Oraciones del Caminante.

By any chance do you have it?

  3. I find myself with the same wish, so I dared to try a translation, not being myself a poet:

"I ride with tense reins and slowing down my flight
because it is not what is important to arrive fast and alone,
but all together, and on time."

  4. Thank you, Lucy. Your translations are wonderful and take me a few decades back to my youth. Yes, Leon Felipe is a great poet... and I say IS because I continuously go back to some of his poems. Today, looking at our Attorney General I recall the following (if my memory serves me well): "... El sapo iscariote, sentado a la diestra del juez, impartiendo justicia en nombre de Dios."
